      How to play

      1. It is August 1897 and the gold ships have just docked in Seattle. Name your party (up to four), then spend your money at the store. The Mounted Police at the summit want about a thousand pounds of food for each person, so buy it, or pay to bring it up later.
      2. Every choice is a numbered button. Press the number key, or Enter for the highlighted choice, or tap. In the store, a number adds one of that item and the minus key takes one back.
      3. On the Chilkoot Trail the whole outfit has to be carried up in trips. Each day pick a light, full or heavy pack, or rest. Hard hauling is faster and hurts health. Storms make avalanches likelier, and you can hire packers by the pound at the Scales.
      4. At Lake Bennett you whipsaw the boards for a boat, which takes days and tools and can start a quarrel. Then you either race the freeze-up down the Yukon or winter over until the ice breaks in late May. Wintering burns food and invites scurvy unless you have lime juice.
      5. Miles Canyon and the White Horse Rapids can be run or portaged. Running them is a short steering run: arrow keys or A and D, or the Left and Right buttons on a phone. P or Esc pauses, and M mutes the sound.
      6. Each day food is eaten by ration, and health is worn down by cold, hard work, scurvy and fever. Check the ledger at the top and the party list below. Deaths are reported plainly.
      7. In Dawson City the party, the goods and money left, and the arrival date are scored. Then comes the claim roll, and most of the good ground was already staked.

Your best score is kept on this device. A journey takes about ten to fifteen minutes.
